Fabric-Wrapped Basket Workshop

Join instructor Monica Sullens for a fun and creative sewing class where you’ll learn to make a 7” x 10” fabric-wrapped rope basket. In this hands-on workshop, participants will transform cotton clothesline and colorful fabric into a stylish and functional oval basket using a sewing machine and zigzag stitch.

This class is perfect for those who enjoy sewing and are looking for a practical project with beautiful results. It’s also a wonderful way to use up extra fabric from your stash. Once you learn the technique, you may find yourself wanting to make baskets in all shapes and sizes!

By the end of class, you’ll leave with a finished basket and the confidence to continue creating at home.

What Will I Learn?

Participants will learn:

        • How to wrap bias fabric strips around cotton clothesline
        • How to use a zigzag stitch to securely join wrapped rope
        • Techniques for shaping and forming a 7” x 10” oval basket

Logan’s Basket

First introduced during a weaving demonstration at the Hansen Museum’s Arts & Crafts Fair in Logan, Kansas, Logan’s Basket is a distinctive project inspired by the traditional Market Basket. Its unique shape makes it both practical and versatile for everyday use.

In this hands-on class, participants will weave their own Logan’s Basket, finishing it with a traditional lashed rim and completing the process in just one day. To give the basket its warm, natural patina, the final step will include dipping it in a Black Walnut solution.

Previous weaving experience is preferred. Makers will leave class with a beautiful, functional basket measuring approximately 15” x 10 ½” x 10 ½”—a timeless piece ready for everyday use.

What Will I Learn?

Participants will:

STEM Camp offers two exciting, hands-on classes tailored to different age groups:

Grades 2–4: Young learners will explore the basics of coding using the Micro:bit controller and MakeCode programming. Each day builds their understanding and creativity through fun, tech-based projects.

Grades 5–8: Older students dive deeper into technology by building and programming their own Raspberry Pi computers. They’ll explore coding, computer systems, and real-world tech applications in small group projects.

Both classes are led by Brad Schmolesky and designed to inspire curiosity, problem-solving, and innovation in a fun, supportive environment.

What Will I Learn?

During this immersive two-day workshop, participants will explore two distinct painting styles.

Grades 2–4:

Join experienced painter Laurie Albinfor a dynamic two-day workshop designed for artists of all levels. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or refining years of practice, Laurie’s warm and inclusive teaching style creates a welcoming space for both beginners and experienced painters.

With decades of experience and a passion for sharing her art, Laurie offers personalized guidance tailored to each participant’s skill level. Through a blend of demonstration, individual guidance, and hands-on painting time, Laurie will lead participants through the fundamentals of oil painting while exploring a variety of subjects—from landscapes and still life to creative compositions.

Class Description

Join us for the Winter Dance Class series, where you can learn various dance styles in a fun and supportive environment! This program is designed for participants 13 and older and includes three levels of classes to cater to different skill sets.

What Will I Learn?

      • Beginners Dance Class: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
        • What Will I Learn?: In this introductory class, you will learn the basics of popular dances such as Two-Step, Swing, and Waltz. This class focuses on fundamental steps, rhythm, and coordination to help you gain confidence on the dance floor.
      • Intermediate Dance Class: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
        • What Will I Learn?: Building on the skills learned in the beginner class, this session introduces additional dances including Polka, Cha Cha, and Rumba. You will refine your technique while learning new steps and combinations.
      • Advanced Dance Class: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
        • What Will I Learn?: The advanced class enhances your repertoire of previously learned dances. Participants will focus on mastering advanced techniques and patterns.
