Artist of the Month: Jesus & Jelly by Sommer Yocum

Establishing and cultivating relationships with local makers and creatives is one way we invest in our community. The Artist of the Month Contest serves as inspiration, challenging them to keep creating and growing.

Each year, exhibitors in our Arts and Crafts Fair participate in the Artist of the Month contest. Twelve winners are chosen for their uniqueness, creativity, presentation, individual art form, and excellence of their craft.

In addition to receiving special recognition for their achievement, their works are displayed and available for purchase in the Museum for their honored month.

Come support our artist of the month: Faith, family, and the flavors of the Kansas prairie come together in the July Artist of the Month display featuring Sommer Yocum of Prairie View, Kansas, and her business, Jesus & Jelly.

Using techniques passed down by her husband’s grandmother, Sommer handcrafts each batch from start to finish. Every jar includes an encouraging Bible verse and is prayed over before it leaves her kitchen. Her motto says it all: Picked. Prepared. Poured. Prayed Over.

Since debuting at the Hansen Museum Arts & Crafts Fair, Jesus & Jelly has become a favorite at area farmers markets, with jars finding their way to customers across the United States—and even to the Dominican Republic.

Stop by the Hansen Museum during July to browse Sommer’s delicious handcrafted jellies and discover the inspiring story of faith, perseverance, and family behind Jesus & Jelly.

Would you like to see your arts/crafts displayed at the museum?

Our upcoming annual Arts and Crafts Fair is your opportunity to exhibit your artistic wares, as well as to participate in the contest to become Artist of the Month.
