If you enjoy arts and crafts, come and spend a fun Saturday in Logan!

Logan is a farming community nestled in northwest Kansas on Highway 9.  Logan is home to the Hansen Museum, sponsor of one of the best arts and crafts fairs in the state. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, numerous artists and crafters from Kansas and surrounding states will turn the Hansen Plaza Square into a shopper’s paradise.  Family and friends rally together for this annual event held on the Hansen Plaza located on Main Street in downtown Logan.  There is no admission charge.

The day gets underway with a charity 5k Fun Run and 2 Mile Walk.  Registration & T-shirt pickup begins at 7:00 a.m. The 5K run will start at 8:00 a.m. with the 2 mile walk to follow at 8:15 a.m.  All proceeds will be donated to charity.  For more information click the link:  Coming Soon!

Crafters check in before dawn!

Crafters check in before dawn in preparation for the fair’s 9:00 a.m. opening.  Food vendors line two sides of the Square.

Delicious offerings usually include hamburgers, bratwurst, chicken & noodles, homemade pies, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, sno-cones, and more.  If you start the day hungry, you won’t be for long.

Iowa chain saw artist, Blair Smith

Blair will be on the grounds to astonish you with his chainsaw artistry.  Blair will begin performing at 9:00 a.m. and will complete four sculptures for your viewing pleasure.  Two of the incredible sculptures will be given away in drawings at 10:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

For your listening pleasure, live music will be provided on two stages on either side of the Plaza.  The south stage will showcase Formerly Three from Nebraska at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., artisans will be giving demonstrations of their crafts around the Plaza.

Artisan presentations will include blacksmith techniques with Brian Bethke; painting by certified Bob Ross instructor Sandy Seamone; wheel-throwing techniques on the potter’s wheel; and Kansas artist, David Volbracht, will be on hand to demonstrate oil painting.

After strolling around the Plaza Square, please step inside the museum and meander through the gallery.  Our exhibit “Da Vinci the Exhibit.”  Da Vinci The Exhibition is a hands-on exploration of the life and work of the original Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci.  This traveling exhibition features over 60 inventions and machines brought to life from da Vinci’s codices, advanced anatomical studies, world-renowned paintings, and so much more. This is a must-see exhibit!  While you are inside, don’t forget to look in purchasing a Hansen Museum membership.  Purchasing a membership during the Arts & Crafts Fair automatically enters you in the Purchase Prize drawings. $500.00 dollars’ worth of purchase prize certificates will be given away in drawings held at 10:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.  Members must be present to win, so remember to stay close!

Amble across Main Street to the Logan Public Library where you can check out quilting demonstrations.  At 10:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. quilter Janie Lowry will do a live quilting demonstration.

At 9:00 a.m., the Inflate-o-Fun will be ready to entertain the children with the climbing wall, obstacle course, and  jumper/slide comb.

The highlight of the day will be the selection of 12 new winners (and two alternates) of the coveted “Artist of the Month” award.  This year’s crafters will be judged for their uniqueness, quality of craft, and display.  Winners will be presented with prizes to the public announcement and photos at 2:30 p.m.
