Are We Teachable?

Winston Churchill once said, “I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught.”  For many, this is a true statement, especially when learning to do something difficult.  Here at the Museum, we are in the middle of upgrading our website.  Thankfully, we have a professional development company on hand to do the heavy lifting, but the office staff will have much to learn to keep the site current.  Everyone is very excited about a modern website that will allow patrons to register and pay for classes online.  We really are excited to learn—it is just a lot and completely foreign to us.  Our current website has been in a triage state for quite some time.  Up until now, we have usually been able to update information, but at this time we are not always able to do so.  Please be patient with us while the new site is being completed.  We hope to have the site live by mid-August.  As always, please do not hesitate to call about exhibits, classes, hours, or other information.

Painters over this past weekend enjoyed learning from Joy of Painting instructor Hope Blakely in the Hansen Museum Community Room.  For most taking Joy of Painting classes, they not only like learning but look forward to being taught as well.  Learning new techniques, like creating the fog scene they painted on Saturday was challenging, but completely gratifying.  Hope’s entertaining as well as educational teaching style takes the vexation out of being taught.  Check out the Hansen Museum Facebook page to see photos of happy painters and their paintings.

Around this time of year, planning for the Hansen Museum’s annual Arts and Crafts Fair shifts into high gear.  Each year, we glean knowledge from the previous year (we are always being taught 😊).  Our goal is to improve every year.  This year’s fair is a big milestone, it will be our 50th Arts and Crafts Fair!  To celebrate the magnificent vendors who make our fair a quality event year after year, we are busting out bigger and better prizes for the Artist of the Month winners, and for our faithful fair goers, the Museum Board will be serving homemade ice cream and sugar cookies in the early afternoon.  Make plans to spend Saturday, August 17th in Logan at the 50th Annual Hansen Museum’s Arts and Crafts Fair.  Be sure to keep watch on our Facebook page as we begin highlighting vendors, artisans, and entertainment.

Our current exhibit, Sonic Sensation, is a fun learning event as it leads viewers on a hands-on discovery of sound.  Sonic Sensation will remain on view at the Hansen Museum through July 28th.  Visit www.hansenmuseum.org for more information.  Make plans to come make some noise at the Hansen Museum this summer!  The Museum is open Mon. through Fri. 9-12 and 1-4; Sat. 9-12 & 1-5; Sun. and holidays 1-5.  We are closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.  We are handicapped accessible, and admission is always free thanks to the generous support of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation.  For more information or if you have questions, please contact us at 785-689-4846.  We hope to see and hear you at the Museum soon!
